What is RRB NTPC?
RRB NTPC (Non-Technical Popular Categories) is a large-scale recruitment exam conducted by India's Railway Recruitment Board for various non-technical posts across Indian Railways. It's conducted in stages, with candidates progressively shortlisted at each one.
The stages
The exam is generally structured as a screening stage (CBT 1) followed by a more detailed stage (CBT 2) for shortlisted candidates, with some posts requiring further skill or typing tests afterward. Both CBT stages are computer-based and objective (multiple-choice).
- CBT 1 — a screening-level test covering General Awareness, Mathematics, and General Intelligence & Reasoning
- CBT 2 — a more in-depth test for shortlisted candidates, covering similar sections in greater depth
- Post-specific stages — some posts require a typing skill test or other skill test after CBT 2
A note on accuracy
Exact section-wise question counts, timing, and post-wise eligibility criteria are set by RRB for each recruitment cycle and do change — always cross-check against the current official RRB NTPC notification rather than relying on older cycles' numbers.
